PlanMate Safety Center
Real connections thrive when you feel secure. Here is how our built-in safety tools work and how to stay safe during in-person activities.
1. Our Safety Philosophy
At PlanMate, our mission is to help people move past digital isolation and experience the richness of real-world activities. We believe genuine community requires clear boundaries, effective reporting mechanisms, and empowerment for every member.
Notice on Safety Expectations: While we build tools to prevent abuse and take prompt moderation action, PlanMate does not conduct criminal background checks and cannot guarantee individual behavior. You are empowered with tools to make smart, informed decisions about where you go and who you meet.
2. Built-In In-App Safety Features
We provide practical tools integrated directly into your mobile experience to keep you in full control:
Verified Profiles
Identity verification signals confirm phone and email authenticity to discourage fake accounts and foster trust.
Two-Way User Blocking
Instantly block any member to completely hide your profile, remove chat channels, and prevent them from joining your plans.
Omnipresent Reporting
Easily flag users, activities, stories, or messages with a single tap for priority moderation review.
Privacy Controls
Your precise GPS location is never broadcast. You control your bio, interests, and activity visibility.
3. How Reporting Works
You can report concerns across four areas of the application:
- User Profiles: Tap the options menu (⋯) on any profile to report suspicious or abusive behavior.
- Activities & Plans: Report plans that violate safety rules, promote illegal acts, or misrepresent events.
- Chat Messages: Long-press any message in an activity channel to flag harassment or inappropriate content.
- Stories & Media: Report offensive images or unauthorized media directly from the story viewer.
Common report categories include: Spam, Harassment or Bullying, Hate Speech, Inappropriate/Sexual Content, Violence or Threats, Scams & Fraud, Impersonation, and Privacy Violations.
4. Blocking & Prevention
When you block someone on PlanMate:
- They cannot view your profile details or interests.
- They cannot join plans you host, and you will not see plans they host.
- They cannot send you messages or contact you through activity chats.
- The block is mutual and applied automatically across all app surfaces.
- You can manage your blocked accounts list at any time in Settings > Blocked Users.
5. Safe Meetup Best Practices
Before stepping out to an activity, follow these essential real-world safety tips:
1. Meet in public, busy places
Choose well-populated venues with staff and lighting—like popular cafes, city parks, sports courts, or established community centers. Avoid private residences or secluded spots for first-time meetups.
2. Tell someone your plans
Let a friend or family member know where you are going, who you are meeting, and when you expect to return. Share your live phone location with a trusted contact.
3. Arrange your own transportation
Always have independent transportation to and from the activity (personal vehicle, ride-share, or public transit). Do not rely on strangers for rides.
4. Guard your private personal details
Never share sensitive financial data, home addresses, passwords, or personal banking information with fellow attendees.
5. Trust your instincts
If at any point an activity, host, or participant makes you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, you have the absolute right to leave immediately. Your comfort and safety always come first.
6. Immediate Danger & Emergencies
Emergency Protocol
If you or someone else is in immediate physical danger, experiencing medical distress, or facing an urgent threat, call your local emergency services (e.g. 911, 112, or local police) immediately.
PlanMate cannot provide on-scene emergency dispatch or immediate physical intervention. Please ensure your physical safety with first responders first, then report the incident to our safety team.
7. Moderation & Enforcement
Our team reviews reported accounts, activities, and content. When violations are confirmed, we take graduated or immediate enforcement actions depending on severity:
- Immediate removal of offending content, media, or plans.
- Temporary account restrictions or chat bans.
- Permanent account termination and ban on re-registration for severe or repeat violations.
- Referral to law enforcement when required by applicable laws involving severe crimes or exploitation.
